Samuel Vincent Boot was born in 1889 the son of Samuel a coal miner and Ann Boot (née Duke). Married in 1874, they had seventeen children. Samuel’s four siblings to survive infancy were Harriett b.1882, Herbert b.1884, Florence b.1889 and William b.1891. In 1901 and 1911 the family lived at 319 Quarry Road Bulwell Nottingham. Samuel senior and junior were coal miners and an eleven year old granddaughter Elsie lived with them. Samuel Vincent married Clara Williams in 1911 at Nottingham. Their children were born at Nottingham, Herbert in 1912 and Ida in 1915.
Samuel Vincent Boot enlisted at Nottingham and initially served (22450) in the Sherwood Foresters later transferring to the Northamptonshire Regiment. He landed in France on 12th July 1915 and died of wounds at No 50 Casualty Clearing Station. He was buried in Hazebrock Communal Cemetery Nord France Grave Reference: II F 7.
