James Thompson was born in 1895 the son of Agnes Thompson, he later took the surname of Jacques when his mother married. His mother married 1899 at Nottingham James Jacques a plate layer for the Midland Railway and Agnes and they lived at 3 Hall's Cottages Stapleford Nottingham. James Jacques (senior) was born in 1871 at Stapleford, Agnes Thompson was born in 1873 at Draycott, married in 1899 at Nottingham and children, James (Thompson) b1895, Arthur (Thompson) b1896, Julie b1900, Harold b1906 and Ernest b1910. In 1911 the family are living at 15 East Street, Stapleford, James (senior) plate layer and Arthur pipe maker.
Private James Jacques, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Stapleford, Landing in France on 18th May 1915, he died of wounds on 12th October 1915 and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery,
His brother Private Arthur Jacques enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Stapleford. He initially served with the service number 1766 in the 2/1st battalion South Notts Hussars before transferring to the Machine Guns Corps (cavalry). He was killed in action at Dahriah, Mesopotamia, on 1st November 1917, his name is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Basra, Iraq.
