William was born on 23rd November 1881 in Bulwell and was the son of Daniel a green grocer and Mary Ann Pinkett née Bainbridge. His father (1852-1903) was born at Bulwell and his mother Mary Ann was born in 1857 also in Bulwell. They married in 1874 in Bulwell and had seven children, four surviving infancy - Clara b.1875 , William b.1882, Henry b.1889 and Annie b.1892, all the children were born in Bulwell. In 1901, the family lived at 175, Quarry Road, Bulwell. By the 1911 census the family was living at 11 Mersey Street, Bulwell . Henry was a stone mason and Annie a dressmaker. William had by then emigrated to Canada. Described as being a labourer on the ship’s passenger list, he sailed from Liverpool aboard the Hesperian 9/12/1910.
He died of wounds and is buried in Puchevillers British Cemetery, Grave Reference: VI B 24
