Charles Attenborough married his wife Eleanor Hutsby in 1903 at Nottingha. They went on to have the following children, Hilda b1904, Irene b1908 and Doris b1914, In the 1911 census the family are living at 74 Manvers Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. They are shown as Charles 38 yrs a bricklayers labourer who is living with his wife Eleanor 31 yrs an overlocking machinist and their children Hilda 7 yrs and Irene 3 yrs. A third daughter, Doris, was born three years later.
Railway Operating Division Sapper Charles Attenborough died of wounds on 2nd December 1918 and was buried in Nottingham General Cemetery (grave ref. 05493).
Nottingham Evening Post, 'In memoriam', 2nd December 1919: “ATTENBOROUGH. – In loving memory of Charlie, beloved husband of Eleanor Attenborough, died of wounds December 2nd, 1918. Fondly remembered. – Wife and children. “ATTENBOROUGH. – In loving memory of dear father, who died of wounds December 2nd, 1918. One year has passed away, and still to memory dear.
