Family History

Frank White was born in 1890 at Sheffield and was the son of the late Noah a publican and Mary Ann White née Hollaway of 19 Holland Street, Sheffield. His father Noah was born in 1854 at Sheffield, he died on 23rd February 1905, his mother Mary Ann Halloway was born in 1854 at Sheffield, they were married in 1874 at Sheffield, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 6 died in infancy or early childhood, their children listed on the 1911 census were , Henry b1885, Frank b1890, Ernest b1894 and Nellie b1888, all were born in Sheffield. In the 1911 census the family are living at the Cambridge Hotel 4 & 6 Fawcett Street, Sheffield and are shown as Mary Ann White 57 yrs a widow and beerhouse keeper, she is living with her children, Henry 26 yrs a fishmonger, Frank 21 yrs a shoe finisher, Ernest 17 yrs an assistant in a brass works and Nellie 23 yrs working at home.

Military History

Lance Sergeant Frank White enlisted at Sheffield, he served with the 2/5th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he went missing in action on 23rd May 1918 (pension card ) or 28th March 1918 SDGW and Soldiers effects and CWGC, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Extra Information

The North Collingham memorial was unveiled on 30 November 1919. The order of service, which included the names of the fallen, had: 'Frank White, Pte Yorks Light Infantry, D. July 4th 1918' The only Frank Wright serving with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry found on the CWGC is the one listed Private 34489 CWGC: rank Lance Serjeant UKSDGW: born Sheffield, enlisted Sheffield Frank Whites pension card shows he is one of two children who died during the Great War his brother Ernest White service number 17069 served with the Yorks and Lancaster Regiment who died 9/6/17, Frank service number 34489 Lance Sergeant KOYLI was missing on 23/05/18 both are the son of Mary Ann White 66 yrs of 350 Stansforth Street, Sheffield and later 19 Holland Street, Sheffield. With no obvious connection to either North Collingham or Weston it CAN NOT be confirmed that this is the correct person
