Albert Banner was the son of Samuel Banner & Eliza Ann Leadbitter, who married in Radford in 1854. They had nine children, but only three were alive in 1911. These were Arthur, born in 1868, Albert, born in 1871 and Lizzie Ann, born in 1874. The family lived at Wharf yard, Alfreton Road, Radford, Nuthall Road, Cinderhill, and 27 Cyril Avenue, Bobbersmill. Samuel Banner, a coal miner, died in 1914, aged 79 years. His wife died in 1928
Pte. Banner enlisted at Northampton on 28/01/1916, joining 15th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment on 18/09/1916. He embarked at Folkestone for France, and on 09/05/1917 he was posted to 100th Company, Labour Corps. On 11/01/1918 he was admitted to No 2 Australian General Hospital at Wimereux suffering from'stricture' and died at 12.30 p.m. whilst anaesthic was being administers. He was buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery.
