Francis Douglas York

Francis (Frank) was the son of Joseph Mitchell and Mary Jane York. His father was born in Northamptonshire on 27 October 1865 and his mother was born in Bullpoint, Devon, on 19 August 1867. They were married in about 1895 and had four children of whom only three survived: Francis Douglas b. Fermoy County Cork 1896 (J/F/M Fermoy Ireland), Eva Grace b. Leicester 1898 (J/A/S Leicester) and Joseph Frederick Mitchell b. 7 April 1900 (A/M/J Basford). In 1901 Mary Jane (29) and her three children Francis (5), Eva (2) and Joseph (11 months), were staying in Daybrook, Nottingham, as visitors in the household of Edward and Ellen Baggaley. Her husband has not yet been traced on the 1901 Census. By 1911 the family was living at Crabtree Farm, Bulwell. Joseph senior (42) was a horse keeper for a pottery company. In the home on the night of the census were his wife Mary (39) and their three children Francis (15), Eva (12) and Joseph (10) who were all at school. The family was living at 164 Commercial Road, Bulwell, at the time of Francis' death in 1916 and his parents and younger brother Joseph were still living there in 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled. His father was described as a retired hairdresser while his brother was working as a gentlemen's hairdresser. Joseph Mitchell died in February 1940 and Mary Jane in 1953 (Mar Nottingham) aged 85. Joseph Frederick Mitchell died in 1974 (Sep Nottingham). Eva Grace, has not been traced after 1911.
