George Rayment was the son of George Rayment and Jane Custance who married at Nottingham in 1890. Their children included: Annie (b.1891), Harold (b.1893); Mabel (b.1894) and George (b.1896). There was an older child Elsie Rayment (b.1888) born before the couple married. The Rayments lived at: 16 Waring Street, Leicester [C.1891]; 24 Corporation Street, Mansfield [C.1901]. George Rayment senior, who worked as a railway telegraph clerk, died in the Bingham registration district in 1904, aged 42. In 1907 Jane Rayment married Alfred Widdowson Thomas in the Mansfield registration district and by 1911 they had moved to 58 Player Street, Radford [C.1911]. The address given for Gunner George Rayment in the death notice placed in the local paper was 57 Garfield Road, Radford [n.e.p.12.9.1916]. Jane Thomas died at Nottingham, aged 87, in 1955.
371st Bty Royal Field Artillery George Rayment was killed in action on 22 August 1916. He was buried in Englebelmer Communal Cemetery, Somme, France (grave ref II.A.2).
