William Rainbow was born in 1895 and baptised on 8th November 1895 at St Marys Church, Nottingham, he was the only son of William Winter a railway labourer and Esther Rainbow née Winn of 66 Holborn Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham. William Winter was born in 1877 and Esther Winn was born in 1876 both were born in Nottingham they were married in 1895 at Nottingham. In 1901 they lived at 7 Providence Square Sneinton Nottingham. In 1911 they lived at 46 ?????? Street, Nottingham William Winter is 34 yrs a railway labour for the Great Central Railway, Esther is 34 yrs, William is not at his parents address on the night of the census.

Military History

Private William Winter enlisted on 3rd October 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 66 Holborn Ave, Sneinton, Nottingham, he was posted to the 3/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was discharged on 18th February 1916 as not likely to become an efficient soldier. He was later caled up for duty and served with the service number G/114826 in the 23rd battalion Royal Fusiliers, he died accidentally in Germany on 4th March 1919 and is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.
