Albert Ernest Elson

Albert Ernest Elson (b.1891) was the son of Joseph Elson and Lucy Robinson who married at Derby in 1885. Among their other children were Beatrice May (b.1886), Lily May (b.1887), Albert Ernest (b.1891) and Lionel (b.1994). Lucy Elson already had a child, Lucy Robinson (b.1883) before they married. The Elsons could be found in Margate in 1891 but come the next census most of the children were living with Joseph’s mother, Julia Ann Elson, at 17 Broadholme Street, Lenton. If their parents were out of the country it might explain why there is no record of Lucy Elson’s death. By the next census of 1911 Joseph Elson can be found living at 10 Garfield Road, Radford. He appears to have a new wife, Mabel, and four further children. They state in the 1911 census that they married c.1901 but there is no specific evidence for this. Only Lionel from the earlier brood was still living with them. The additional children, were: Gladys May (b.1902), Francis Marguerite (b.1904), Eric (b.1906) and Philip (b.1911). Joseph Elson, was described as an engine fitter [C.1881], mechanical stress engineer [C.1891] and engine maker [C.1911], died at Nottingham, aged 70, in 1924. Mabel Elson, also died in Nottingham, aged 79, in 1963.
