Family History

George Chevin was born in 1889 at Lincoln, he was the son of George and Anna Diane Chevins and the brother of Emily, George, John, James and Arthur Chevins of Costock, Nottinghamshire

Military History

Private George Chevins enlisted at Ware, Hertfordshire, he served with the 1st battalion Grenadier Guards, landing France on 19th October 1914. He died of wounds on 16th October 1915 and is buried at Lillers Communal Cemetery 4.C.55

Extra Information

His brother Corporal Joseph Chevins enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Costock, he served with the 2/6th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 7th September 1917 and is buried at Bois Guillaume Communal Cemetery Extension Grave Reference: B 8 A Both brothers are also commemorated on the Balby War Memorial, Doncaster.
