Family History

George Herbert Allison was born in 1878 he was the son of the late Thomas a farm labourer and Emma Allison née Pickworth of 2 West End, Newcastle St Tuxford. Thomas was born in 1839 at Ragnall, he died in 1913 aged 74 yrs, Emma Pickworth was born in 1845 at Greetwell, Lincolnshire, they were married on 14th November 1865 at St Oswalds Church, Dunham on Trent, they went on to have 9 children sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood. George Herbert enlisted into the Royal Marine Artillery prior to 1901 as in both the 1901 and 1911 census he is with the Royal Marine Artillery. In 1911 his parents are living at 6 Newcastle Street, Tuxford Thomas 73 yrs is a farm labourer and Emma 66 yrs they are living with three of their grandchildren. in 1911.

Military History

Gunner George Herbert Alllison served with the Royal Marine Artillery he was attached to the 71st Siege Battery South African Heavy Artillery. He was killed in action on 26th October 1916 and is buried at Bazentin-le-Petit Military Cemetery Grave Reference: C 20
