Family History

Robert Styles (junior) was born in1881 at Marylebone, London, he was the son of Robert Styles (senior) a fishmongers assistant and Jessie Ann Styles née Pledger of 100 Winchester Street, Edmonton, London. His father Robert Styles (senior) was born in 1854 at Marylebone, his mother Jessie Ann Pledger was born in 1858 also at Marylebone, they were married on 5th August 1878 at St Marylebone, Westminster, they went on to have 11 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census his parents are living at 100 Winchester Road, Edmonton, London, Robert 57 yrs is a fishmongers assistant, he is living with his wife Jessie Ann 53 yrs and their children, Ethel 18 yrs a table stationer, Peter 15 yrs a labourer, Louisa 13 yrs a scholar and Frances May 8 yrs of age. Robert Styles (junior) married Alice Baines born 1st January 1887 at South Normanton on 24th December 1910 at South Normanton, they lived at 4 Lemuel Terrace, Bulwell, they had two children, Jessie born 6th November 1911 and Robert William born 21st July 1916. In the 1911 census the family are living at 37 Argyle Street, Leicester Robert is 30 yrs and a tripe dresser he is living with his wife Alice 24 yrs. Commencing 19th March 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military History

Private Robert Styles enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 7th July 1916 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
