Luther Allwood was born in 1899 at Hucknall and was the son of William and Mary Ann Allwood née Breedon of 15 Orchard Street, Hucknall, he had a sister Frances b1904 at Hucknall In the 1911 census the family are living in the Basford workhouse, Highbury Road, Bulwell, he is shown as being 12 yrs of age, he is in the workhouse with his mother Mary Ann 33 yrs and his sister Francis 7 yrs , his mother states she has been married for 13 yrs and in that time has had 5 children, sadly 3 of whom died prior to 1911. He was the husband of Gertrude Pilkington, whom he married at the Nottingham Register Office on 10th November 1917, they lived at 8 Scotholme Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham.

Military History

Private Luther Allwood, attested on 16th September 1916 at Hucknall he gave his age as 17 yrs and 10 months, his address as 15 Orchard Street, Hucknall and his next of kin as his mother Mary Ann Allwood of the same address he gave his occupation as that of a coal miner. He was posted to the reserves the fowling day and mobilised for war on 19th April 1918 and served with the 10th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment. He landed in France on 7th August 1918 , he died of wounds on 17th October 1918 at the 18th Casualty Clearing Station at Le Harve and is buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt. He had served for 2 yrs and 72 days.
