Leslie James Leatherland was born in 1898 at Bulwell he was the son of James a coal miner hewer and Harriett Leatherland née Raynor of 7 Filey Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. James Leatherland was born in 1866 at Pinxton, Harriett Raynor was born in 1865 at Basford, they were married on 13th June 1885 at St John’s Church at Bulwell. They had 6 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Filey Street, Bulwell, James 45 yrs is a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Harriett 46 yrs and their children, Beatrice 21 yrs a machinist, Minnie 19 yrs a curtain folder, Leslie James 13 yrs a scholar, Edith 10 yrs and Horace 7 yrs old.

Military History

Private Leslie James Leatherhead enlisted at Hucknall whilst residing at Bulwell, he served with the 55th company machine gun corps, he was killed in action on 29th April 1916 and is buried at Cerisy-Gailly Military Cemetery, France.
