Family History

After marrying in 1890, John Waplington and Charlotte Turner, lived at Village Street, Egmanton, Notts, where they started their family. They had six children born in Egmanton. They were, Eliza 1893, Fanny 1895, William 1896, Mark 1898, Edith 1901 and Annie 1902. This family move to Tuxford after 1902 where Tom Waplington was born in 1908.

Military History

Mark joined the army at the early age of 18 years old. At the time of enlistment he was living at 4 Eldon Street, Tuxford and signed on for the duration of the war on 21st March 1917. His record shows that he was at “home” until the 31st July 1917 when he was sent to France, arriving the following day. He was serving with the 2/6th Battalion when he died after being gassed. He is buried at the Mory Abbey Military Cemetery, Mory, France
