Family History

William Henry Burton was the son of Luke Bathway Burton an iron works motorman and Mary Elizabeth Burton née Troy of 12 The Pastures, Stapleford. Luke Bathway Burton was born in 1862 at Ancaster, Lincolnshire, Mary Elizabeth Troy was born in 1868 at Ripley, married in C1884 and went on to have the following children, Nellie b1892, William Henry b1895, Sybil b1902 and Stella b1908 all were born in Nottingham, Stella was born in Stapleford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 12 The Pastures, Stapleford and are shown as Luke 49 yrs an iron works motorman, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 43 yrs and their children, Nellie 19 yrs a net mender, William Henry 16 yrs a pipe fetler, Sybil 9 yrs a scholar and Stella 3 yrs. Luke states on the census he has been married for 27 yrs and has had 6 children, sadly 1 has died (no trace can be found of the marriage on the bdm index)

Military History

Rifleman William Henry Burton enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Stapleford. He died of wounds on 6th December 1917 and is buried at Contay British Cemetery Contay
