Richard Wombwell was born Richard Keetley in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of Ada Keetley born 1877 at Nottingham of 32 Crown Street, Bulwell, his mother married Richard Wombwell born 1877 in Nottingham he was a French polisher, they were married on 19th December 1896 at St Johns, Leenside, Nottingham.They went on to have a further child Frank born 1898 at Nottingham. His mother Ada died in 1909 aged 32 yrs, in the 1911 census his family are living at 27 Walnut Tree Avenue, Nottingham, Richard 34 yrs is a widow he is a French polisher, he is living with his two sons Richard Wombwell 16 yrs a lithograph printer and Frank Wombwell 13 yrs a scholar.
Private Richard Wombwell enlisted at Nottingham on 12th August 1914, he was 18 yrs and 205 days old, he was a town carter, posted to the 1st battalion, Sherwood Foresters Regiment he landed in France on 27th December 1914. He died of wounds on 5th August 1915 he is buried at Merville Communal Cemetery, France. Plot 3. Row Q. Grave 9.
