Family History

Son of John and Henrietta Simpson of The Retreat, Lowdham, Notts, and husband of Emily Simpson of Park Cottage, The Hendre, Monmouth (CWGC). In 1891 John (28) and his wife, Henrietta (27), were living at 8 Claremont Terrace, Sherwood, with their two children, John Johnstone (3, b. abt. 1888) and Janet (1). By 1901 the family had moved to Station Road, Lowdham, and John and Henrietta now had a second daughter, Fredericka Louisa (1). The family was still in Lowdham in 1911, living at 'The Retreat'. John Johnstone married Emily Barlow in 1914, probably in the October, and in 1916 they were living at 45 Balfour Road, Lenton Sands. Emily was still at the same address when her husband died the following year.

Military History

Royal Field Artillery 37th Div Ammuntion Col. He died of wounds and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery (grave ref XIX.B.14A). He qualified for the British War Memorial and Victory Memorial.
