Tom Musgrave was born in 1893 at Lowdham and was the son of the late Henry and Mary Ann Musgrave née Blanchard of Easthorpe, Southwell. His father was born in 1827 and died in 1896 at Southwell aged 69 yrs, his mother Mary Anne Blachard was born in 1868 at Ashby, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1891 at Lincoln and went on to have the following children, Lizzie b1891, Tom b1893 and a George b1896 at Southwell. In the 1911 census the family are living at Easthorpe, Southwell and are shown as Mary Anne Musgrave 43 yrs a widow and charwoman, she is living with her children Lizzie 21 yrs a slip winder and lace hand, Tom 18 yrs a grocers assistant and George 15 yrs a scholar.
Private Tom Musgrave enlisted at Southwell on 18th March 1912, he gave his age as 19 yrs and 3 months his address as Easthorpe, Southwell, he stated he was a grocers assistant working for J.H. Kirkby at Southwell. His next of kin was his mother Mary Ann of the same address. He served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters he was embodied on 5th August 1914 and landed in France on 2nd March 1915 where he served until 26th September 1915 when he was returned to England He was discharged from the Army being medical unfit to serve on 15th May 1916 . He died at home on 10th July 1916 of acute nephritis and is buried in Southwell Minster (St. Mary) Churchyard, Nottinghamshire.
His brother George Musgrave enlisted on 13th March 1912 at Southwell he gave his age as 17 yrs and his address as Easthorpe, Southwell, he gave his occupation as a solicitors clerk working for Kirkland and Lane, Southwell. He served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was embodied for war on 5th August 1914 he was promoted to Corporal on 30th July 1915 but reverted to Lance Corporal at his own request on 29th February 1916. He was discharged from the Army due to sickness on 21st August 1916 having seen no service overseas and was awarded a Silver War Badge number 223725.
