George Turton was born in 1896 at Mansfield he was the son of Walter a coal miner (killed in action 30th May 1915) and Elizabeth Turton née Walker and the brother of Thomas, Doris, Elizabeth,Florry and William Henry Turton, in the 1911 census the family were living at Eastfield Side, Sutton in Ashfield, he was the husband of Florrie Turton née Betts and lived at 13 Lime Street, Sutton in Ashfield

Military History

Private George Turton enlisted at Edninburgh, Scotland whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he served with the 7th battalion The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and was killed in action on 22nd August 1918, he is buried at Albert Communal Extension Cemetery
