Family History

Douglas Hepworth was born in 1893 the son of William a butcher and the late Elizabeth Hepworth née Robinson of 24 Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. William was born in 1853, Elizabeth Robinson was born in 1855 both were born at Sutton in Ashfield, she died in 1919 aged 64 yrs, married on 20th August 1872 at Sutton in Ashfield, they went on to have 11 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at Douglas Road, Sutton in Ashfield, William 55 yrs is a butcher, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 55 yrs and their children, Hilda Mary 27 working at home, Harold 23 yrs a tailor and Douglas 18 yrs a drapers assistant.

Military History

Bombardier Douglas Hepworth enlisted at Buxton whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he landed in France on 25th August 1915. He was killed in action on 21st October 1917 and is buried at La Clytte Military Cemetery, Belgium.
