Extra Information

Retfordian, In Memoriam:'Very many old Retfordians will recall the brilliant school career of " Punch " White and will deeply mourn his loss. He was the third son of Dr and Mrs White, of Hadfield, Manchester, and was with us 1903-1909. After a most successful course in the law faculty of the University of Manchester, he graduated LLB before he was 20. He then entered upon the medical course of the University, and was showing equally brilliant promise in this direction when war broke out. Frank at once offered his services, and received a commission in the Cheshire Regiment. In this sphere his capacity and character showed themselves, and he had risen to Captain's rank when he fell on September 4th, shot the throat while gallantly leading his company against a German position at Gullemont on the Somme Front.'
