Family History

Frederick was born in 1899 the only son of Oliver a political agent and Mary Todman, (née Jarvis ). In 1901, they lived at 17, Alma Road, Retford and in 1911 at 19, Alma Road. Prior to his enlistment the family appear to have moved down to Bath (5, Junction Road) from where Frederick enlisted.

Military History

Frederick enlisted at Bath and served in the 9th battalion Devonshire Regiment. He died in hospital at Rouen, France of cardiac dilation and is buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France Grave Reference: PIII P2B

Retfordian, In Memoriam: 'Frederick Oliver Todman of the Devonshire Regiment died on July 25th in hospital at Rouen from cardiac dilation brought on and accentuated by the excessive strain of marching at the front. Before enlistment he was an article pupil with Messers Powell, Old Bond Street., and had before him a bright promising future. He was only 20 years of age.'
