Extra Information

The following article is taken from the 'In memoriam' section of the 'Retfordian' magazine which was an in house publication of the King Edward VI Grammar School, Retford :- George Beever who will be remembered as the finest 'inside right' since G.T. Walker and J.N. Birkett, was in the opening operations of the Somme Battle. While taking part in the advance on the very first day, he was killed near Montauban. It is a great thing to know that he was respected by his comrades in the army, it is a finer thing to remember that he was even respected by his contemporaries when at school.
