George Frederick Squires was born in 1886 at Bingham and was the son of Stephen a monumental mason and Susanna Squires, (née Clarke) of Long Acre Bingham. Stephen was born in 1851 in Cropwell Bishop, Susanna Clarke in 1849 at Bingham. Married in 1875, they had seven children, five surviving infancy - Margaret Ann b.1877 Cropwell Bishop, Oliver b.1881 Cropwell Bishop, Stephen Henry b.1885 Bingham, George Frederick b.1886 Bingham and Kate b. 1888 Bingham. In 1911 they lived at Long Acre, Bingham. Margaret was a dress maker, Stephen Harry and elementary school teacher, George a monumental mason and Kate a teacher of music/piano. His mother died on 25 September 1923 aged 75 years.
George Frederick Squires enlisted at Bingham and died of wounds. Roye New British Cemetery, Somme, France Grave Reference: I.B.5/7
Inscription family gravestone: 'n sacred and ever loving memory oof Susannah wife of Stephen Squires, who passed peacefully to rest Sptr 25th 1923, aged 75 years ... And of the above Stephen Squires, who passed away Octr, 9th 19(-) in his 75th year … And of George Frederick their dearly loved son who died of wounds March 29th, aged 31 years. High sacrifice and labour (-) ever to (-) death. Also Alice daughter of of (-) who died 18th Dec. 196(-) aged (-).'
