Family History

William Ernald Tagg was born in 1893 , he was baptised on 7th August 1893 at St Mary Magdalene Church Sutton In Ashfield the son of George a coal miner hewer and Sarah Jane Tagg née Hames and the brother of George Ernest and Clarice May Tagg. George was born in 1865 in Derbyshire, Sarah Jane Hames was born in 1857 at Manchester, married on 28th January 1889 at the Clay Cross Parish Church, Derbyshire they went on to have 5 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 4 Park Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire George is 45 yrs and a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Sarah Jane 49 yrs and their children, William Ernald is 17 yrs and is a carter.

Military History

Private William Ernald Tagg enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Mansfield, he served with the 11th battalion Royal Fusiliers Regiment and was killed in action on 26th September 1916 and is buried at at Connaught Cemetery, Thiepval
