Family History

Archie Dove was born in 1887 at Sutton in Ashfield and was the grandson of John Dove of 17 Penn Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. His grandfather John was born in 1814 at Sutton in Ashfield.

Military History

Private Archie Dove enlisted on 25th February 1916 at Sutton in Ashfield, giving his age as 29 yrs and 117 days, he was a hosiery hand, he was posted to the reserves. Mobilised for war on 26th April 1916 at Derby he was posted with service number 43825 into the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was transferred on 6th May 1916 to the Royal Scots regiment and was serving with 'A' Coy when he embarked from Folkstone on 27th June 1917 and landed at Boulogne the following day. He was killed in action on 19th April 1918 and is buried at St-Venant-Robecq Road Brith Cemetery Robecq, France.
