Charles Henry Revill

Private Charles Henry Revill, attested on 15th September 1916 at Mansfield, he gave his age as 17 years and 114 days. He gave his address as 21 Spencer Street, Mansfield and his occupation as that of a hosiery hand. He was posted to the reserves the following day the 16th. He was mobilised for war on 21st May 1917 and joined the 7th Training Reserve battalion Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment at their training depot. Posted to the 15th/17th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, on 30th March 1918 when he embarked from Folkstone on 30th March 1918 landing at Boulogne on 1st April 1918. He died within two weeks on 13th April 1918 from wounds received in action the previous day at No 10 Casualty Clearing Station. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.

Entry from the Du Ruvignys Roll Of Honour reads :- “REVILL, CHARLES HENRY, Private, No. 61725, 15th (Service) Battn. The Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regt.), s. of the late Private William Revill, by his wife, Sarah (21, Spencer Street, Mansfield), dau. of Charles Hack, of 25, Padley Hill, Mansfield; b. Mansfield, co. Nottingham, 20 May 1899; educ. Rose Mary School there; was Stage Manager at the Mansfield Empire; enlisted 21 May, 1917; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 31 March, 1918, and died at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station 13 April, following, from wounds received in action during the defence of Calais the previous day. Buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, south-west of Poperhinghe; unm.” [Sarah was allowed 15 shillings as a separation allowance.
