Harold was born in 1889 in Newark and was the son of Harry a boot repairer and Matilda Revill née Lynn of 4 Priests Yard, Chatham Street, Newark. His father Harry was born in 1864 in Newark and his mother Matilda Lynn was born in 1865 also in Newark. They were married in Newark in 1884 and went on to have 7 children , sadly two were to died in infancy or childhood. Their surviving children were all born in Newark and were :- Bertha b1885, Robert b1887, Harold b1889, Edgar b1898 and Phyliss b 1902. In the 1911 census the family are living at Priests Yard, Chatham Street, Newark and are shown as Harry 46 yrs head of the family a boot repairer, he is living with his wife Matilda 46 yrs and 3 of their children , Harold 22 yrs , single and a maltster, Edgar 13 yrs a scholar and Phyliss 9 yrs a scholar.
Private Harold Revill enlisted in Derby and served with the 25th battalion Tyneside Irish, Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 9th April 1917 and is buried in Roclincourt Valley Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
His elder brother Robert Revill also served during the Great War, he served in the Border Regiment and was killed in action on 8th May 1915 at Gallipoli, Turkey, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Article published 12th May 1917 in the Newark Herald :- Son of Mr & Mrs Harry Revill, 4 Priests Yard, Chatham Street, Newark. Single and had worked at Messrs. Gilstrap, Earp & Co. from 14 years of age up to the day before he joined the colours in his group, that was on March 13th, 1916. He was attached to the Northumberland Fusiliers and went to France at the end of June. The following month he received a shrapnel wound in the hand. Recovering, he was soon again in action and again wounded, he was brought to England in September and operated on. Sent out again in February. His eldest brother, Pte Robert Revill was killed at Gallipoli and his other brother, Edgar is with the local regiment now in France.
