Arthur George Musgrove was born in 1898 at Newark and was the son of Arthur George Musgrove a foreman maltster and Ivy Musgrove née Fisher of 40, Albert St., Newark. His father Arthur George was born in 1875 at Kempston, Bedfordshire and his mother Lily (Ivy) Fisher was born in 1873 at Newark, they were married in 1896 at Newark and went on to have the following children, Arthur George b1898, Harold Pretoria b1900, Winifred b1902, Harry b1904, Annie b1906 and Bertha b1908 all were born in Newark. In the 1911 census the family are living at 40 Albert Street, Newark and are shown as Arthur 36 yrs a foreman maltster, he is living with his wife Ivy 3 8 yrs and their children Arthur G 12 yrs a scholar, Harold P 11 yrs a scholar, Winifred 9 yrs a scholar, Harry 7 yrs a scholar, Annie 5 yrs and Bertha 3 yrs.
Private Arthur George Musgrove enlisted in November 1914 at Newark, he initially served with the service number 311 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and served through the Irish Rebellion.He was killed in action whilst serving with the 18th battalion Manchester Regiment, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
Article published on 29th August 1917 in the Newark Advertiser :- Son of Arthur & Ivy Musgrove, 40 Albert Street, Newark. Attended Christ Church School, where he won a swimming certificate. Served two years with Dr. Brown, before employment with Mr Pratt, fishmonger. Enlisted Nov. 1914 in the Sherwood Foresters and served through the Irish rebellion. After arriving in France was transferred to the 3rd Manchesters. Returned in Sept. 1916 and sent back to France June. Killed while advancing on August 9th.
