Family History

Jack Peet Bee was born in 1894 at Thorpe, Newark and was the son of Thomas a farm labourer and Alice Bee née Peet of 48 Sincil Bank Lincoln. His father Thomas was born in 1859 at Waddingham, Lincolnshire and his mother Alice Peet was born in 1857 in Collingham, they married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Newark Registration District, his mother brought two children to the marriage, Ada Peet b1874 Collingham and Harriett Peet b1878 Collingham, they went to have a further 4 children Frederick b1886 Hawton,, Mary Ann b1888 Collingham, Minnie b1892 Nettlesham and John Peet b1894 Thorpe In the 1911 census the family are living at Brough village and are shown as Thomas 52 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Alice 54 yrs and their children, Frederick 25 yrs a farm labourer and Jack Peet 16 yrs a general labourer, also living with them at this time is their married daughter Harriett Tonn 33 yrs and her children, Eva 3 yrs and George 19 months.

Military History

Private Jack Peet Bee attested on 10th January 1915 at Newark, he gave his age as 19 yrs and 187 days, his occupation was that of a farm servant and he lived at the village of Brough, his next of kin was his father Thomas. He joined his battalion and was given the service number 21918 Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) on 30th July 1915. On 10th July 1915 he was transferred to the Northamptonshire Regiment and landed in France on 28th July 1915. He was wounded in action, gun shot wound to back and thigh on 20th July 1916 and died as a result of his injuries at the 57th Field Ambulance , he had served for 1 yr and 193 days. He is buried in Albert Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
