Clyde was born in 1898 at Pleasant Ridge, Cincinatti, Ohio, U.S.A. and was the son of John Watt Elrick a gardener and Ann Elrick, of 9, Wharf St., Montrose, Forfarshire. Clyde attended Govan High School in Glasgow, leaving in 1914 to take up a boy clerkship.
Corporal Clyde Elrick enlisted at Edinburgh , he was residing in Govan at this time. He served with the 9th battalion Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He landed in France on 4th May 1915 and was killed in action on 9th May 1917, he is buried in Nine Elms Military Cemetery, Thelus, France
His name is on Govan High School's War Memorial, and the school has a photo and obituary of him.
