Family History

Charles William Robinson was born in 1883 the son of William a green grocer and Ellen Robinson née Nuttall and the brother of Everett, Eliza Ann and Frank Robinson. both his parents William and Ellen Nuttal were born in 1859 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have 12 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 22 Slater Street Sutton in Ashfield, William 52 yrs a green grocer is living with his wife Ellen 52 yrs and 4 of their children, Charles is 28 yrs is a bricklayer. Charles William married Frances Illingworth in 1914 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had a daughter Olive born 27th April 1915, they lived at 66 Chatsworth Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Commencing 25th February 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Charles William Robinson enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield, he initially served with the service number 65697 in the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was serving with the 1/4th Loyal North Lancashire Regiment when he was killed in action on 31st July 1917 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Town Memorial, Belgium
