Thomas Henry Smith was born in 1876 at Coddington and married his wife Mary Ann Hardy (b1877 Newark) in 1899 at Newark, Mary brought son Robert Henry Dady b1896 to the marriage. they lived at 3 Regent Street, Newark. They had the following children all of whom were born in Newark, Albert Edward b1901, William Henry b1903, Phyllis Irene b1905, Alfred Joseph b1907, Percy b1909. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Regent Street, Newark, and are shown as Thomas Henry 35 yrs a brewers labourer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 34 yrs and their children, Albert Edward 10 yrs a scholar, William Henry 8 yrs a scholar, Phyllis Irene 6 yrs a scholar, Alfred Joseph 4 yrs and Percy 2yrs also living with them is Robert Henry Dady 15 yrs described as wives son before marriage.
Private Thomas Henry Smith enlisted on 6th November 1915 and served with the 2nd battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He saw service abroad and on 15th August 1918 was discharged from the Army being no longer fit for war service. He was issued with a silver badge number 436982 he was 40 yrs of age. He died on 15th October 1918 and is buried at Newark-upon-Trent Cemetery, Nottinghamshire.
