Arthur Middleton was born in 1884 the son of George a frame work knitter and Elizabeth Middleton née Shaw of 12 Outram Street, Sutton in Ashfield. George was born in 1849 at Sutton in Ashfield, Elizabeth Shaw was born in 1848 also in Sutton, married in 1848 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 12 Outram Street Sutton in Ashfield.
Private Arthur Middleton enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield. He served with the 1st battalion Norfolk Regiment, he was killed in action on 21st April 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
