Horace was born in 1893 in Ilkeston and was the son of James a labourer and Katherine Beet and he was the brother of Nellie, Katherine, Henrietta and Fred of Hempshall Hall Lodge, nr Nottingham. He married Alice Annie Bates in 1915 in Nottingham they lived at Bingham Road, Radcliffe on Trent. Commencing 7th July 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Gunner Horace Beet, served with the 1st Divisional Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery, he died on 26th December 1918 at 54th General Hospital, of influenza and pneumonia. He is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, grave reference XII D44
In memoriam published 26th December 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BEET. – In loving remembrance of my dear brother, Horace Beet, died December 26th, 1918, British Hospital, France, after 4½ years' service.
