Saxondale Hospital

The memorial is in the former chapel of Saxondale hospital (Nottinghamshire County Lunatic Asylum) which was opened on 29 July 1902 to replace the asylum in Sneinton, Nottingham. Dedication: '1914-1919. In honoured memory of the men from this hospital who laid down their lives in the European War (names). Requiescant in pace.' The name of one man who died in the Second World War has been added to the memorial. The impact of the war on the hospital staff and patients is recorded in Nottinghamshire County Council's minutes of the Committee of Visitors of Nottinghamshire County Lunatic Asylum (copies of minutes held in Nottinghamshire Archives)
