Family History

Wilfred Jackson Taylor was born in 1886 , he was baptised on 30th May 1886 at the Parish Church, Thorpe on the Hill he was the son of Francis a farm labourer and Mary Taylor née Jackson. Francis was born in 1840 at Whitby, Lincolnshire, Mary Jackson was born in 1844 at Fulbeck, she died in 1917 aged 73 yrs they were married on 6th February 1868 at Fulbeck and had a further son John William (1868-1913) Wilfred married Eliza Bradshaw (born 10th January 1887 Radford) on 29th January 1913 at Blackwell, they lived at 8 Asylum Cottages Radcliffe on Trent. They had two children, Herbert Francis born 1913, he died in 1919 of tb aged 6 yrs of age and Edna May born 1915. Commencing 6th July 1921 his widow was awarded a pension of 36 shillings and 8 pence a week. His widow later lived at 150,Victoria Street, Mansfield

Military History

Gunner Wilfred Jackson Taylor enlisted on 27th October 1915 at Nottingham, giving his age as 29 yrs and 6 months, he was an asylum attendant, he served with the 33rd Company Royal Garrison Artillery. He served in France and on 23rd August 1917 he was admitted to Australian General Hospital, Rouen. with – severe pyrexia of unknown origin. (P.U.O. which refers to a prolonged fever with unknown cause) his next of kin were informed, indicating he was dangerously ill. On 27th August 1917 he was transferred to England and to the 5th Southern General hospital, Portsmouth. On the 18th September 1918 he was discharged from the Army, he was 32 yrs and 4 months old. Issued with a Silver War Badge B4981 he died on 2nd February 1921 and is buried at Radcliffe on Trent Cemetery.
