Family History

Samuel Bonser was the son of Herbert Bonser and Emma Truswell who married in Nottingham in 1895. They had three children: Ada (b.1896), Samuel (b.1898), Herbert Leslie (b.1901). All were born in Radford. The family homes identified were also all in Radford: 2 Pine Terrace, Old Radford [C.1901], 51 Boden Street, Radford [C.1911 & CWGC]. Herbert Bonser was employed as a lace maker and died in Nottingham aged 74 in 1948. His wife. Emma, outlived him dying in Nottingham aged 89 in 1966.

Military History

Lance Corporal Bonser was a professional soldier and he arrived in France 11/11/1914. His battalion took part in the fighting during the Third Battle of Ypres and he was killed in action on 13/12/1917 as the front became quiet after the main battle. He was buried at Potijze Chateau Grounds Cemetery near Ypres.
