Family History

He was the son of George and Alice Brailsford who had five children, Thomas George (listed as 'George' in the 1901 census), James, Nellie, Harry Tippin and Frank William. In 1911 his father was a horse keeper for the glue manufacturer, Miggetts and Son, and the family was living at Hamilton Road, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottingham. At home were four of George and Alice's children; Thomas George (29), a widower who also worked at Miggetts and Son, Nellie (19), Harry Tippin (16) and Frank William (13) who was still at school. Their second child, James, who was 12 in 1901, was not in the household. His father died on 8 August 1934 age 75 and his mother on 25 January 1941 age 81.

Military History

He attested 24 June 1916 and was mobilised 22 May 1917. He was discharged 1 August 1918 and died in Mansfield in 1920 (J/F/M) (Medal Roll and Free BMD). He is buried in Sutton in Ashfield cemetery. The fact that he was discharged from the army in August 1918 together with the inscription on the gravestone, 'peace after pain', suggests that he died as a result of wounds, injuries or illness suffered while on active service.
