Family History

Belton Oldham was born on 13th November 1881 and was baptised on 22nd November 1881 at South Collingham and he was the son of James Belton Oldham an agricultural labourer and Mary Jane Oldham née Burley of Collingham His father James Belton was born in 1861 at Collingham and his mother Mary Jane Caunton was born in 1856 at Caunton, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Newark registration district, they went on to have the following children, Isabella b1880 Collingham, Belton b1881 Collingham, Joseph b1886 Eagle and Emma b1889 Eagle. In 1891 the family lived at Eagle , Lincolnshire. In the 1911 census Belton has left the family home and is living at 37 Orchard Road, Bolsover, he is shown as being 28 yrs of age, single and a general labourer he is living with his uncle William Ross 48 yrs a gardener and his family . In the same 1911 census his parents are living at North Collingham, they are shown as James 50 yrs a cowman on a farm, he is living with his wife Mary Jane 55 yrs and their granddaughter Winnie 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Belton Oldham attested on 1st March 1916 at Bolsover, he gave his age as 34 yrs and 3 months, he stated he was a colliery fireman and his religion was that of Church of England, he was posted to the reserves. Mobilised for war on 8th March 1917 he was posted to the 9th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he embarked from Folkstone on 5th June 1917 and disembarked at Boulogne the following day. He was wounded on the 4th November 1918 and died the following day, he is buried at Cambrai East Military Cemetery, Nord, France. II. A. 15
