Family History

Robert Stanley Hunt was born in 1895 at South Collingham and was the only son of William Barton Hunt a labourer and Lois Elizabeth Hunt née Bocock of Low Street Collingham. His father William Barton was born in 1859 at North Collingham and his mother Lois Elizabeth Bocock was born in 1863 at South Collingham, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Newark Registration district. In the 1911 census the family lived on Low Street North Collingham and were shown as William Barton Hunt 52 yrs a labourer, he is living with his wife Lois Elizabeth 48 yrs and their son Robert Stanley 16 yrs apprentice joiner

Military History

Private Robert Stanley Hunt enlisted at Newark in June 1915 and originally served with the service number 4663 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He served during the Irish Rebellion where he was wounded and following his recovery in hospital he was transferred to the 10th battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He went with his battalion to France and he was killed in action on 25th October 1916. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
