Harold Victor Walters was born on 20th October 1891 at Nottingham and was the son of William Walters, a lace factory manager and the late Sarah Ann Walters née Clay of 64 Byron Road, West Bridgford of Nottingham.His father William was born in 1841 in London, Canada and his mother Sarah Ann Clay was born in 1851 at Nottingham, she died in Nottingham in 1906 aged 54 yrs. They were married in 1869 at Nottingham and had the following children, William Arthur b1872, Florence Edith b1875, Emily b1878, Rowland b1880, Evelyn Mabel b1882, Maggie b1884, Ethel Victoria b1887 and Harold Victor b1893 all were born in Nottingham.In the 1911 census the family are living at 64 Byron Road, West Bridfgord and are shown as William 70 yrs a widow and lace factory manager, he is living with his children, Maggie 27 yrs single and a clerk, Ethel Victoria 24 yrs single and Harold Victor 18 yrs a bank clerk .Harold married Kathleen Mary Best at Hoveringham Church on 17th February 1916 and they lived at 54, Radcliffe Rd., West Bridgford, Nottingham
Captain Harold Victor Walters was a member of the Nottingham Officer Training Corps, he was gazetted to Second Lieutenant on 30th June 1915 to the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he was promoted to Lieutenant on 16th October 1915 and to Captain on 1st January 1916, he served n France from 6th March 1916. He was killed in action at Beaumont Hamel on 3rd September 1916 and is buried at Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel, Somme, France.
His commanding officer wrote of him " He was a gallant and very good officer and will be greatly missed by all those who are left as he was a general favourite with all his brother officers and men"
