Family History

George William Blundy (junior) was born in 1887 at Harby and was the son of the late George William Blundy (senior) a tailor and Eliza Blundy née Topham of Queen Street, North Collingham. His father George William (senior) was born in 1815 at Harby and died in 1900 aged 48 yrs and his mother Eliza Topham was born in 1861 also at Harby, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Newark Registration district, they went on to have the following children, Percy John b1886 Harby, George William b1887 Harby, Ronald Edward b1891 North Collingham, May b1893 North Collingham and Kathleen b1898 North Collingham. In the 1911 census George William Blundy (junior) has left his family home, he is living at Skelton in Cleveland the home of William Henry Anthony Wharton 51 yrs and his family (the home has 51 rooms) he is shown as being 24 yrs of age single a footman and is one of fifteen servants working at the address. In the same 1911 census his widowed mother is living at Queen Street, Collingham, she is shown as being 50 yrs a widow and seamstress she is living with her daughter Kathleen 13 yrs a scholar and she has a lodger living at the address.

Military History

Private George William Blundy enlisted in January 1915 at Saltburn whilst residing at Skilton in Cleveland, he served with the 4th battalion Yorkshire Regiment went to front in October. He was Killed by explosion of mine on the Western front, February 14th, 1916. He is buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. 2.K.12

Extra Information

Two of his brothers also served in the Great War Ronald served in the Grenadier Guards whilst Percy served in the 5th Lancers they both survived the war.
