Harry Blow was born in 1891 at Harmston, Lincolnshire and was the youngest son of John Thomas a farm foreman and Mary Ann Blow née Brown, of Ramper Rd., Swinderby, Newark. His father John Thomas was born in 1864 at Dunstan, Lincolnshire, his mother Mary Ann Brown was born in 1862 at Harmston, they were married in 1886 at Harmston and had a further son John William b1888 at Harmston. In the 1911 census the family are living at Potter Hill, Collingham and are shown as John Thomas Blow 47 yrs a farm foreman , he is living with his wife Mary Ann 49 yrs and a servant girl Sophia Copeland 14 yrs of age and 2 lodgers. Their sons are not at the address on the night of the census, John William is a waggoner on Hill Farm at Flintham and Harry is care of W.Scoley of Mill House, on his attestation papers in 1916.
Private Harry Blow attested on 9th December 1915 at Southwell, he gave his age as 24 yrs and 10 months, his occupation was that of a millers drayman, his next of kin was his father John Thomas Blow of Potter Hill, Collingham. He was posted to the reserves and was mobilised for war on 12th February 1916 and arrived at the Derby depot on 14th February 1916. He was initialled posted with the service number 35303 in to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was transferred to the 2nd battalion Royal Scots on 15th April 1916 and embarked from Folkstone on 2nd June 1917 landing at Boulogne the same day, he arrived at Etaples base camp the following day. He died at No 4 General Hospital from gas poisoning from a gas shell whilst in action on 29th May 1918 and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. grave reference 66.E.35
Article published 5th June 1918 in the Newark Advertiser :- Second son of Mr & Mrs Blow, Potter Hill, Collingham. Died of wounds received from a gas shell, at No. 4 General Hospital (29th May 1918). Age 27. Joined army on February 12th, 1916. Went to France Whit week, 1917
