Frank Henson was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of Edward a carpet salesman and Blanche Henson née Cloughton of 54, Austen Avenue, Nottingham. His father Edward was born in 1866 and his mother Blanche Cloughton was born in 1865, both were born in Hull, Yorkshire. They were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Sculcoates Registration District, Yorkshire, they went on to have 3 sons William b1894, Fran b1896 and Arthur b1898 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 91 Burford Road, Nottingham and are shown as Edward 45 yrs a carpet salesman, he is living with his wife Blanche 46 yrs and their children, William 17 yrs a law clerk, Frank 15 yrs an apprentice carpet salesman and Arthur 13 yrs a scholar.
Private Frank Henson, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 1/7th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles), he was killed in action on 3rd August 1915. He is buried in Sanctuary Wood Cemetery (grave ref II.D.23/24)
His brother, William, Private 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment was killed in action on 8 October 1918. Death notice published 20th August 1915 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HENSON. – Killed in action, on August 3rd, Frank Henson, 1/7th Robin Hoods, second son of Edward and Blanche Henson, 99, Burford-road, aged 20 years. He did his duty. “HENSON. – Killed in action, on August 3rd, Frank Henson, 1/7th Robin Hoods, aged 20 years, late member of St. Stephen's Institute, Derby-road and George-street Cricket Clubs.
