Family History

Henry Dove (junior) was born on 26th May 1895 at Sutton in Ashfield, he was the son of Henry Dove (senior) a Stallman coal miner and Mary Ann Dove née Barnes of Beighton Street, Sutton in Ashfield. Henry Dove (senior) was born in1864, Mary Ann Barnes was born in 1867 both were born in Sutton in Ashfield, they were married on 29th October 1882 at St Mary’s Church, Sutton in Ashfield, they went on to have 14 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at Beighton Street, Sutton in Ashfield, Henry (senior) 47 yrs is a Stallman coal miner, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs and their children, Mary Florence 17 yrs a hosiery hand, Henry 15 yrs a pony driver coal miner, Wilfred 12 yrs, Cyril 10 yrs, Victor 8 yrs, John George 6 yrs, Arthur 4 yrs and Hilda 2 years of age.

Military History

Private Henry Dove enlisted at Derby, he served with the 2nd battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 3rd April 1917 and is buried at Savy British Cemetery, France
