Family History

Sidney Andrew Wingrove was born in 1895 he was the son of Albert Edward a Midland railway signalman and Elizabeth Ann Wingrove née Jeffery and the brother of Alvey William George, Charles, Herbert and Arthur Edward Wingrove. Albert Edward was born in 1872 at Highgate, Middlesex, Elizabeth Ann Jeffery was born in 1867 at Redhill, Arnold, Nottingham, married on 1st August 1892 at St Helens Church Pinxton they went on to have 6 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 'Belmont' Nesbitt Street Sutton in Ashfield, Albert Edward is 39 yrs and a signal man on the Mildland railway, he is living with his wife Elizabeth Ann 43 yrs and their 5 children, Sidney Andrew is 15 yrs and is an office boy for a stone mason.

Military History

Corporal Sidney Andrew Wingrove, enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing in Sutton in Ashfield. and served with “Z” 50th Trench Mortar Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, he was killed in action on 16th April 1916 and is buried in La Laiterie Military Cemetery.
