Family History

George Whittaker was born in Austerfield, Yorkshire in 1888 along with a twin sister, Ada. Their parents were George and Emma Whittaker. Two years later they moved to South Carr, Harworth, Nottinghamshire, where four more children were born. When he was age 23, he had returned to his birth village of Austerfield and was living with his widowed grandmother, Elizabeth, employed as a gamekeeper employee of Major Peake of Bawtry Hall and then the Duke of Newcastle. In 1914 he married Annie Capill and by 1916, they had a child, Lois T Whittaker.

Military History

He enlisted as a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery in May 1916 and after some months service in France died in hospital at Etaples France on 4th May 1918 from disease contracted on service. He was 30 years of age and left a widow and one child
